It was clearly more of a camera year for Sony, with the releases of the a7S III and a7C, among others, but that didn’t stop this company from also releasing a trio of exciting lenses for its E-mount mirrorless cameras. Sony’s lens system is already pretty expansive after several years of consistent growth, so this year felt more like Sony was taking a step back and filling in some gaps in the lineup, especially around the wide end of the range.
FE 20mm f/1.8 G
Early in the year, Sony came out with the FE 20mm f/1.8 G. It’s not the type of lens to dazzle you, but it’s a solid choice due to its ultra-wide, but not too wide, focal length, and capable f/1.8 design that helps keep the size and weight down. It’s the ideal choice for the hiking nature or landscape shooter, or a street and architecture photographer who’s walking around while shooting.
