Despite the impact of COVID-19 and a worldwide pandemic, 2020 was another banner year for wearable tech, as worldwide sales and units shipped grew by a significant margin. Driving these figures were the usual suspects—Fitbit, Apple, and Garmin—as well as nice innovations from Samsung and Suunto. We’ve compiled the very best of these devices into our list of top wearables of 2020.
Apple Watch Series 6
Since its inception, the Apple Watch has been a perennial favorite for “best of year” honors. The newest model, the Apple Watch Series 6, continues that legacy. The latest iteration of Apple’s do-everything device adds several items to the Watch’s already-exhaustive list of health tracking features, including a blood oxygen sensor for measuring blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels.
Along with its new tracking features, the Series 6 also boasts a new (and significantly faster) processor, a 2.5x brighter always-on OLED display, and all the extra features that come with the new WatchOS7. These features are, of course, in addition to all the highlights the Watch Series 6 carries over from its predecessors. The list of those highlights is too long to detail adequately, but the result of all those features is one of the best wearables of the year and one of the best smartwatches ever made.
